The city of San Diego, California was rocked by a mass shooting on Sunday evening after a gunman opened fire at a pool party at an apartment complex, killing one woman and injuring seven others.
Daily Mail reported that the shooting occurred at around 6:10pm near the La Jolla Crossroads Apartments at Judicial Drive and Sydney Court. The shooter has been identified as Peter Selis, 49, who was holding a beer in one hand and a gun in the other. Many of his victims were black, but Selis himself has been identified as a white man. Police managed to shoot Selis dead when he paused to reload his weapon.
Four of the victims, including the deceased one, were African American women. Two were African American men, and one was Hispanic. The victims were all guests at a 50th birthday party hosted by a resident of the apartment at the complex pool.
“This is truly a horrific act of violence that took place here today,” San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer said at a news conference. “Our entire city, all of our thoughts and prayers, all San Diegans’ thoughts and prayers, are with the victims and their families tonight.”
Selis lived at the complex where the shooting took place, but no motive is known at this time. Witnesses say he came down to the party and sat by the pool when the host walked over and asked if he wanted anything to drink. Selis declined, and then suddenly lifted up his shirt and pulled out a gun, immediately opening fire.
Many of the victims are in critical condition, including the man whose birthday it was, who is said to have been hit the worst.
Please pray for the victims of this tragedy!
